ENVIRONMENTAL WATCH ASSOCIATION OF TANZANIA (EWAT)
In order to have a medium for addressing environmental issues, students who are pursuing the degree program in Environmental Sciences and Management saw the need of creating an association which will also serve as a tool to prepare and mould their professionalism. The association was adopted from the former Environmental Watch Club (EWC) to Environmental Watch Association of Tanzania (EWAT),
EWAT is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) with registration number SO. NO.14637 under the societies ordinance of 1954 with headquarters at Solomon Mahlangu Campus of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) under the Faculty of Science, it was formed with the following objectives:
• .Raising public awareness about the problems of environmental degradation.
• Initiating and promoting dialogue and collaborative actions among beneficiaries' researchers, planners, policy makers, NGOs and donors in problem identification, project planning, and implementation and Evaluation of sustainable development.
• Networking with students, scientists from learning institutions and NGOs both locally and .internationally. to develop an .international medium of addressing environmental and ...developmental issues.
• Conduct research and disseminating information by publishing text to enhance common understanding
.among local communities, researchers, NGOs and the Government in the developmental process.
• To offer the community and industries consultancy services on environmental conservation, pollution. abatement and .prevention, cleaner production methods and sustainable use of natural resources.
On 21st February 2002, Mr. Eric K. Mugurusi, the Director of environment in the Vice President's Office inaugurated the Environmental Watch Club (EWC) at Solomon Mahlangu campus. In his speech, he acknowledged the students for forming the Club and he also said: "The launching of the Environmental Watch Club at the University is a clear indication that you are determined to go an extra mile; you are dead set to give your most, not your least to the course of environmental management." He was very right. We are committed to improving the management and protection of the Environment locally and globally so that future generations can really have a future and look forward to a healthy and enjoyable life on earth.

However on 31st January 2007 Environmental Watch Association of Tanzania (EWAT) was officially registered to replace Environmental Watch Club with the same objective but in a wider scope.
